Have your teeth imperfections corrected by dental bonding in London

Sunday, July 20th, 2008

Dental bonding is a procedure used for cosmetic enhancement and the repair of structural imperfections in the teeth. It is also known as composite or tooth bonding. It utilizes a composite resin consisting of glass and porcelain particles that are fused into a liquid plastic which is then matched according to the colour of the patient’s teeth. It can be used in a wide array of situations. It can repair chipped teeth, cover discoloured teeth, line-up crooked teeth, fill the gap between teeth, replace silver amalgam fillings and repair decayed teeth.
To begin the procedure, the London dentist will select a composite resin that matches the colour of the patient’s teeth. The dentist will roughen the existing tooth in order for the resin to bond properly. The composite is then applied to the tooth, shaped and smoothen until the desired look is achieved. High intensity light is used to quickly harden the composite. It is then buffed and polished to make the bonded tooth to appear the same as the surrounding teeth.
Tooth bonding has several benefits for patients in London. The tooth looks and feels natural. Unlike other procedures such as bridges, veneers or crowns, bonding is very inexpensive and fast. It usually takes a short period of time to complete and can usually be completed in one dental visit. Dental bonding is painless and no anaesthesia is needed in most cases since it does not involve any surgery or drilling.
Although dental bonding has several advantages, it is only a temporary replacement. Its quality is not the same as that of bridges, veneers, crowns and other forms of filling. That’s why bonded teeth are more prone to chip, break or stain. The patient should therefore first weigh the pros and cons of dental bonding before undergoing the bonding treatment.

London dentist could now offer One Visit Dental Implants

Sunday, July 6th, 2008

The past 20 years have witnessed many interesting innovations in dentistry. And dental implants were really interesting as they completely eliminated the need for painful and expensive dental bridges and the cutting of perfectly healthy teeth as support. Dental implants were also very effective in replacing one single teeth as well as conserving the loss of bone after a tooth extraction. But the main drawback of this technique was the frequent visits spanning months and the painful surgeries required every time for placing the implants.

But now Dr. Jan Linhart and his educated colleagues have developed a revolutionary technique in which implants can be placed immediately and in a single visit. If the periodontal condition is good then Dr Jon and his colleagues Dr. Bobby Gahlili have managed to get implants done immediately and send the patient home with the crown already in place. If a hole is not available for the dental implantation, they will drill a hole to place a titanium implant and build up surrounding bone with bone implants to get Osseo-integration.

But the process has not yet been scientifically accepted as most London dentists agree that sufficient bone growth to stabilize the implant takes atleast two weeks and one visit implants may need additional research.

Smile you are in London

A dental bridge replaces an individual’s missing teeth even if there is more than one missing together. A bridge is similar to a small denture like structure that becomes a permanent fixture in the mouth. It is adhered to the teeth around the missing ones. Once a bridge is in place, it can stay in the mouth for a decade or more and not cause any problems. Dental bridges resemble crowns in most aspects except they are able to cover more area than a crown would. Bridges can be made from porcelain, gold, or other materials of the clients choosing. There are three types of dental bridges available in London. The type used will depend on the situation of the individual. The first type is a normal fixed dental bridge. This is the more common type used in London dental practices today. This bridge is adhered to crowns fixed to the teeth surrounding the missing ones. Next is the resin bridge. This best serves the purpose of covering the front teeth but only when the surrounding teeth are strong and healthy enough to support it. The dental bridge of this type is adhered by glue and resin to metal bands connecting them to the teeth left behind. For those looking for a cheaper alternative, the resin bridge is the one to consider. The final of dental bridge is the Cantilever Bridge. This is different from the other two in the aspect that it only connects to one side on the remaining teeth and not both sides. The Cantilever bridge type is conducted while the patient is under a small amount of sedative. There is also a longer preparation time needed for the anchor tooth to be ready to support the bridge. A cast of the mouth is made and the bridge is created in a lab from that mold. Usual procedure is for the patient to be given a temporary bridge to wear until the fitted one is ready to be cemented into the space.
