Now come on all you lovely parents in London, yes you do the best that you can to bring up you’re kids the right way, but can you honestly say what they get up to the moment you have your backs turned? Without fitting them with a suit of armor, kids will be kids and by nature, will be exploring and experimenting with all manner of avenues. This also goes for what they put in their mouths and enjoying all those fantastic sweets from the shop around the corner. Now, you can teach them the ways of oral hygiene but you may be fighting a losing battle against the wonderful temptations of all things sugary. But if you care enough to help your children to steer away from the evils of tooth decay, there is a little ‘ace’ you can play which will protect their teeth and take at least one weight off your mind- dental sealants. This is a perfect treatment for children in the fight against tooth decay and though your may have to take them shouting and screaming to the dentist to get it done, it’s worth it. Essentially, it’s a small plastic coating that is laid over the surface of the tooth to protect the enamel from all the sweets they eat. It’s cheap too at around a fiver a tooth. Its not a long term solution for their habits, but it will allow the teeth to be protected and be saved from the peril of tooth decay- at least until the child grows up and be able to make informed decisions by themselves. By this time,

Parents will be anxious to do everything they can to make sure that their children have the best start in life especially when it comes to their dental health. This is because you only get one set of natural teeth and children need to be protected from tooth decay as much as adults do. Once a filling needs to be placed in a tooth that has decayed, it will need to be there for life.

Dental sealants are an excellent way to safe guard your children’s teeth from the damaging effects of plaque erosion. What they amount to are plastic coatings on the teeth at the rear of the mouth. They then form a barrier against plaque so that it cannot settle on the teeth and cause the enamel to be eroded and cavities to form in them.

Central London dentists usually apply dental sealants at about the age of six which is when the permanent molars erupt in the mouth. Dental sealants can be reapplied again when the child is aged twelve or so and the second molars have come through. They are affordable and dentists will tell you that they can be applied in a simple process that is not uncomfortable for the child.

Other things you can do to help protect your children’s teeth include incentivising their brushing. This might mean giving them treats when they have brushed successfully. This is important because it establishes a routine that they will hopefully maintain for the rest of their lives. Be sure to monitor the brushing of your children to check that they are not doing so too aggressively and are covering all areas of their mouth.

During the years in which we grow to the age of 17, around three quarters of us in central London will have succumbed to some form of tooth decay. This is because cleaning children’s teeth from an early age is rather a precarious operation. As much as we try to choose for our children the right toothpaste, brushes and bring them up on a sensible diet, it’s still a very vulnerable and sensitive period for teeth. This is why there has been an explosion in the use of dental sealants for children’s teeth. The most dangerous periods for a child are when teeth start to erupt through the gums and up into the mouth. This leaves the gums sore and prone to infection. Covering the teeth with a light plastic sealant prevents any bacteria forming on the surface of the teeth as the gums are very delicate and often too sore to brush properly. Whilst talking about brushing, during the years in which we grow, it can take a while for us to conceive the idea of brushing correctly (some adults still haven’t!), so having a dental sealant is an excellent back up to help keep the teeth safe from plaque and cavities.

Protecting your teeth is crucial at all ages. Children can be particularly vulnerable to ailments in the mouth, not only because their teeth are still developing, but also because they lack the responsibility of adults. As parents it should be a part of your duties to ensure that your children’s teeth stay healthy and free from disease, the consequences of which they will have to live with for the rest of their lives.

One way of helping children to stay free from these problems is for their dentist to apply dental sealants to their teeth. This basically consists of a plastic coating that is applied to the surface of teeth. It acts as an extra barrier protecting them from plaque and as a useful supplement to the enamel which exists on all healthy teeth.

The ages of six and twelve can be good times to have your dentist apply sealant to your child’s teeth. This is because of the developments in the mouth at those ages which facilitate the application of dental sealant. At six the permanent molars usually erupt and around the age of twelve the second molars do the same.

Dental sealants are an affordable way to help with the protection of your child’s teeth and they last for a good few years before they need topping up. This is very much worth doing because of how vulnerable children can be to tooth decay. Of course you should still ensure that they are brushing properly but anyone who has been a parent will know how difficult this can be. The propensity that children have for sweet snacks can also put their teeth at risk and so dental sealants are worth asking your Central London dentist about.

Children in the city of London are very vulnerable to tooth decay and it’s important to undertake all precautions possible to allow the teeth to develop healthily into adulthood. One of the best methods to combat the problem is the application of dental sealants. Designed more specifically for children, they are applied to the back teeth of a child, normally when the tooth has just erupted through the gums, to prevent acids and bacteria breaking down the natural enamel of the teeth. The procedure is almost pain free- the teeth will first be cleaned and then a roughing gel will be applied to aid the bonding of the sealant. This is simply brushed over the teeth and then cured with a heat lamp. Considering that most decay occurs on the chewing surface of the teeth, a dental sealant offers the perfect barrier between the tooth’s surface and any bacteria or plaque that may try to develop and once in place you’d hardly know that they are there, as they can be color coded to match the surrounding teeth. The sealant can work up to 5 years, during the all important development of a child’s teeth, offering the perfect protection and doesn’t need any extra care when cleaning- it’s brush and floss as normal.

Our teeth have small grooves, especially in the chewing surfaces of molars, that are too small to be cleaned by regular toothbrushes but not too small for plaque to build up and cause cavities. Dental sealants aim to fill these grooves preventing the build up of plaque offering 100 per cent protection from decay. Sealants not only prevent decay but can also prevent any further erosion in cases of decay that is already occurring.

Dental sealants are increasingly being used for children to prevent early decay as their teeth are still developing and not as strong as they will be in their adult years. Although sealants are not needed for teeth that have already been filled. Children should ideally have dental sealants applied to permanent molars as soon as they erupt in the dental arc. This is usually between the ages of six and twelve.

Sealants are applied after a gentle acid has been applied to make the surface of the teeth etched and rough for added grip. Once dried, the Central London dentist will apply the liquid sealant into the grooves of the teeth before setting it hard with the high intensity heat of a laser. Sealants are safe and painless, and best of all for kids, require no drilling.

Sealants can last up to ten years but the average lifespan is probably more likely in the area of two or three. They are highly effective tools against dental decay and can be reapplied by a dentist if it has started to wear off.

Central London dentists have been placing dental sealants for a long time to seal out dental decay. These sealants are almost always placed on the back teeth; the child’s premolars and molars, on the biting surfaces. These dental sealants are made of plastic, and act as coatings to seal out decay and protect these teeth against dental decay that usually occurs in the grooves of the teeth where they are placed. The teeth grooves are usually very small, and cannot be brushed adequately. The bristles of the toothbrush have trouble reaching the dental caries in these grooves. In addition, if the dental sealants are placed over areas of minimal tooth decay, they will reduce and even stop the progression of dental caries development. Your Central London dentist would like to place these sealants on your child’s teeth as soon as the permanent molars erupt; usually at 6 to 12 years old. Dental sealants aren’t placed on teeth that already have fillings. Dental sealant are relatively easy to place and do not require any drilling of the teeth or anaesthesia. The teeth are treated with a mild etching material, thoroughly dried, and then the dental sealant are placed and cured using a dental light with a halogen bulb. This procedure is very safe. Dental sealants last from 2 to 4 years, but have already been reported to last for 10+ years. Visit your Central London dentist to seal out decay from your child’s teeth.
