Definition: This is asubstance consumed by individuals to reduce or destroy bacteria. The substance is also made up or derived from other bacteria and yeast. The origin of antibiotics was discovered when it was noted that yeast secretes certain chemicals to kill bacteria and thus reduce the bacterial depletion of food supply for the yeast’s benifite.
