Apicectomy

Definition:This is a type of surgery. This is carried out when an area around a tooth has become badly infected. This is usually done after a root canal; although it could also be required if a tooth becomes fractured. This involves cutting a small part of the root tip and sealing the exposed amputation site with a filling. The infected tissue and bone is often cleaned. Its often performed by an oral surgeon or an endodontist.
