Most people go to the dentist for very routine procedures and treatments; check-ups, fillings and extractions being the most common, with lots of people also asking for cosmetic dentistry, such as braces or veneers. Those with extra cash might want gold teeth or diamond studs, but even these are not that unusual at the moment!
However, a survey of dentists in Chicago has found the ten most unusual requests that dental practitioners have ever had from their patients. Compared to some of these weird requests, even the latest trend for tooth tattoos doesn’t deem so weird.
At number ten in the list was the patient who asked their dentist if they could have their tooth taken out without anaesthesia, closely followed by the woman who asked for her jaw to be wired shut to help with her diet!
One conscientious bar person once asked a dentist if they could ID the pair of dentures someone left at their place of work and someone with more money than sense once asked a dental hygienist to come to their home every day just to floss their teeth!
A weird, yet strangely common request, was for the dentist to remove all the patient’s teeth and give them dentures, while one practical woman asked her dentist to put the diamond from her engagement ring into her tooth after the relationship broke down.
The fourth weirdest request was for a dentist to administer anaesthetic ahead of a patient going into a clinic to have permanent lipstick applied, and third was an emergency call for a tooth cleaning on the day of a high school reunion!
One macabre request was made by a patient who was having all their teeth removed and wanted to make a necklace out of them, while the number one strange request was the Chicago woman who wanted braces for her pet dog.
