General Dentistry

Our clinic provides not only cosmetic and emergency services, but also a range of general dentistry treatment options. These are available to help patients improve their oral health maintenance and prevent dental problems, including periodontal disease, caries and oral cancer.

For calm and pain-free care there is the option of sedation therapy as part of general dentistry provisions. Patients with dental phobia may benefit from sedation and relaxation techniques, to ensure they receive the dental treatment they need for improved health.

General Dental Examination

During an initial consultation your dental condition will be examined and appropriate recommendations will be suggested and explained. Depending on your oral assessment and diagnosis, patients may benefit from the following general dentistry treatments:

  • Tooth Decay and Gum Disease Care
  • Root Canal Therapy
  • Dental Extractions and Wisdom Tooth Extractions
  • White Fillings
  • Inlays and Onlays
  • Dental Crowns
  • Dental Implants
  • Dentures and Bridges

Dental Maintenance and Oral Disease Prevention

General dentists play a pivotal role in creating awareness about dental maintenance. This includes factors such as teeth cleaning and scaling and is necessary to reduce tartar and plaque build-up, which can lead to gingivitis and gum disease.

Poor dental health and oral disease can result from negligence or non-existent dental maintenance. A general dentist’s first job is to educate the public about oral disease prevention, which may include details on teeth cleaning, flossing and what foods to avoid.

Personalised General Dentistry Care

At our clinic we pride ourselves on listening to patients and putting them first. All treatments follow a care plan; created by both the patient and the dental care team. Patients are involved every step of the way and can choose the type of general dental care that is right for them. We also provide options for patients to combine general dentistry treatment with cosmetic dentistry options, such as teeth whitening and porcelain veneers.

Tooth Decay and Gum Disease Care

Gum disease is the inflammation and bleeding of the gum tissue, which is caused by an infection. Gums will then start to recede away from the tooth, causing the tooth to become sensitive and loose. Teeth may decay and fall out as a result of gum disease, and for this reason the early identification of gum disease is important for proper treatment and prevention of the disease.

/

Root Canal Therapy

When teeth are damaged due to tooth decay, gum disease or injury, infection may set in and cause the decay to spread through the root canals. Root canal therapy is a treatment that removes all infection from the tooth root canal and cleanses the site for further tooth restoration. Infection can spread from the tooth roots throughout the body if left untreated, causing further health complications. If part of the tooth is saved a dental crown can be fitted over the remaining tooth structure to act as a natural looking tooth.

/

Dental Extraction and Wisdom Teeth Extraction

A tooth or teeth may be extracted if they are severely damaged and restoration is not an option. Some teeth are lost due to injury, often caused by contact sports, while wisdom teeth are often extracted due to infection and pain. Removal of wisdom teeth is recommended to prevent infection and discomfort. Depending on whether one or more teeth are extracted, the recommendation of the dentist and affordability, you will have a number of choices for the replacement of missing teeth, including bridges, dentures and dental implants.

White Fillings

People with decayed, damaged, fractured and worn teeth may benefit from white fillings. Composite resin and filler, such as ceramic, is used to reshape and restore teeth to healthy structure. White fillings also fill holes and cavities in the teeth and are more aesthetically pleasing than metal amalgam fillings.

/

Inlays and Onlays

White composite inlays and onlays are used to fill deeper cavities caused by tooth trauma or tooth decay. They are a durable and cost effective alternative to white fillings. Inlays are placed inside tooth cavities to fill the vacuum, while onlays cover larger tooth cusp cavities. Both inlays and onlays are custom-made according to patient oral dimensions obtained from moulded impressions and oral imaging. Patients may also choose the inlay or onlay material, such as composite resin, porcelain, zirconium or gold.

Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are a tooth restoration solution for teeth damaged by tooth decay or oral trauma. People with structurally weak teeth or fractured and broken teeth may have dental crowns or caps fitted over the damaged tooth to strengthen tooth structure and protect against tooth loss. Dental crowns may be made of materials such as porcelain, ceramic, zirconium or gold.

Dentures and Dental Bridges

Patients who have lost a tooth or teeth, or had one or more teeth removed by dental extraction, may benefit from dentures or dental bridges. Dentures are able to replace a full arch of teeth, while dental bridges may replace partial missing teeth. As dental implants gain in popularity due to their stability, comfort and naturalness, dentures and dental bridges, although a cheaper alternative, are diminishing in popularity.

/

Dental Implants

Infected and severely damaged teeth can be removed to stop the spread of infection and replaced by titanium dental implants, which act as replacement tooth and root. The number of dental implants needed depends on the dental trauma and whether it is caused by infection or gum disease. Dental implants are a more stable and durable solution than dentures or bridges for replacing teeth.

Emergency Dental Treatment

Whether an individual is suffering from tooth pain, oral infection or trauma, emergency dentists are available to provide immediate care where needed. Patients can be seen in the shortest possible time for dentistry care. We understand the need for timely dental care in such cases, and so early intervention is at the heart of our preventative dental care.
