Why a Check-Up is Essential for Your Oral Health

Safeguarding your oral health – why it’s important

There are so many benefits to having a healthy mouth – the ability to eat, drink and talk without discomfort, to name but a few – that we often take them for granted.
Being able to smile confidently is another reason to keep your mouth in good health. To make sure your mouth stays healthy, it’s important to visit a dentist for regular examinations.

Avoid the complications

The complications that might arise from poor oral health can be painful and might require expensive treatment further down the line. For example if gum disease is left to progress, you might eventually be faced with a bill for tooth replacement treatments.

Hygiene at home

Good oral hygiene begins at home with daily brushing and flossing. This will go a long way towards keeping your mouth healthy, but alone, it is not enough. A good oral hygiene routine at home must go hand in hand with regular dental check-ups.

What happens at a check-up?

During a dental check-up, your dentist will thoroughly examine your mouth for plaque build up and signs of tooth decay and gum disease. Dentists are also trained to detect early signs of oral cancer, a potentially fatal condition but one that is treatable if spotted in time. Your dentist can also offer you expert advice on oral health and keep your smile as healthy as can be.
