Traditional metal braces

Traditional Metal Braces

What are metal braces?

Traditional metal braces are amongst the most common orthodontic treatments worldwide. With proven efficiency and often costs lower than most other brace types, metal braces are a popular choice amongst patients.

With an extensive selection of colours for the elastics, you can personalise your metal attachments to match your style and refresh your look with a new colour after each visit to the clinic. Unlike old-style metal braces, the modern version consists of smaller brackets with rounded, polished edges, making it easier on your mouth and tongue throughout your treatment.

Who is a candidate for metal braces?

Practically every patient can take advantage of this treatment. During your initial consultation, your orthodontist will carry out a full assessment of your teeth, discuss your requirements, recommend suitable brace options, and explain the potential outcome.

Metal brace attachments can be the perfect solution for patients with:

  • Overcrowding;
  • Gapped teeth;
  • Overjet (protruding teeth);
  • Mild overbite;
  • Mild crossbite;
  • Mild underbite.

What to expect from the treatment?

How long is the treatment with metal braces?

As with all brace types, the treatment length will largely depend on your needs and requirements, with most therapies averaging between 12 and 15 months. Remember that many factors can affect the duration needed to align your teeth, and we can only advise you on those after an assessment by our specialist orthodontist.

How often will you need to visit the orthodontist?

Most of the time, you will need to visit the clinic every 6 or 8 weeks; however, emergency appointments (snapped wire or a debonded bracket) may sometimes bring you to the clinic on shorter notice. These things happen, and there are no reasons for concern – an emergency appointment typically takes less than 20 minutes.
