CEREC Technology at the London Dental Clinic

Sunday, October 12th, 2008

When you go visit your London dental clinic, you may need one or several restorations to repair your teeth that have excessive decay and/or root canals. So, how much time are you going to miss from work, how long is this going to take, and how much is it going to cost (i.e., in both time away from work and the price of the dental procedure(s)) Your mind is calculating and then you meet your London dentist, who tells you that this entire process will take only an hour and a single visit. You think to yourself; how can this be? All of you other onlays or crowns took several visits. Your London dentist explains that their dental clinic now has CEREC technology which will allow the dentist to prepare your tooth, take a digital picture of the preparation which gets changed into a 3-D computerised model, and then have the on-site dental laboratory fabricate the restoration. The entire procedure only takes about an hour. Once your dentist and the laboratory are pleased with the computer designed tooth/teeth, a very high quality ceramic block will be milled on-site and then shaded and coloured to match your tooth or teeth. The ceramic blocks are available in many tooth shades, and your dentist can perform a very good match. Once the restoration is tried in the mouth and fitted properly, it is touched up and polished, and then cemented in place. Your dentist also has more control of the final restoration, as it is made in the dental office instead of having to be sent to an outside laboratory.

London Dentists Talks about Fresh Breath

Saturday, October 11th, 2008

It is very embarrassing when your breath stinks, so your London dentist will give you advice about maintaining fresh breath. There are many things that you can do at home to keep your breath fresh and clean. These include, watching what you eat as some foods make your breath smell bad, and the poor breath doesn’t resolve itself until these foods are metabolised by your body and expired into the air. Use fluoride-based toothpaste when you brush, and you should brush for at least two minutes and also floss, twice daily. Try to avoid mouthwashes if your breadth begins to smell, as these can possibly make the situation even worse. Mouthwashes usually remove the bacteria in your mouth above your gum tissue, and you can get an overgrowth of sulphur-producing bacteria below your gums that smell even worse. If your mouth is dry, you can use sugarless candies or sugarless gum to stimulate your saliva to wash away bacteria.
You should visit your London dentist for regular checkups, even if you feel that nothing in your mouth requires attention. You may have a cavity or cavities that you do not notice yourself that can cause bad breath, or an infected tooth or teeth. You may also have gum and/or periodontal problems that you will not notice until they get very severe and cause you pain. This can cause bad breath. Also, lifestyle changes can help you to keep your breadth fresh and clean. If you smoke, consider quitting. Try to cut down on alcohol consumption as it has been shown to be associated with periodontal disease. If you are taking medications for medical problems, and your mouth is dry, visit your dentist and see what can be done. There are several things that they can do and/or prescribe for your problem. All in all, stay in good health, and the mouth is not separate from the rest of the body, so visit your London dentist regularly.

Saturday, October 11th, 2008

Invisalign® is currently available to you at your London dental clinic. They are composed of a progression of plastic clear trays that fit over your teeth made by intricate methods using a special computer. Invisalign® is used at your London-based dentist to straighten and move your teeth. Invisalign® has changed orthodontics, and the orthodontic bracket and wire systems. Invisalign® is practically unnoticeable, and is much more comfortable than the braces of old. It performs its results in one half to one third the time of traditional braces. Invisalign® is not a complete substitution for traditional braces, as it cannot be used on teeth that are not totally erupted or on very crowded teeth; it is very popular.Go visit your London dentist to see if you are a good candidate. The dentist should examine your mouth and take X-rays of your teeth, along with impressions to be used as study models and computer analysis. The computer will determine how many trays you will require to obtain the desired results. It usually ranges from between 12-48 trays made of clear plastic. These will be fabricated by an outside laboratory and returned to your dentist’s office. Your dentist will advise you on how to insert your trays. They may be uncomfortable for a short time, as the trays are designed to the new positions of you teeth. After your teeth move to this new position, they then rest, and the process resumes with the next sequential tray until your desired result is achieved. You will probably have to visit your dentist regularly so the they can monitor the teeth movements.

London Dentist Talks About Teeth Whitening History

Saturday, October 11th, 2008

There has been a long term interest in tooth whitening procedures and products in London. Historically, the ancient Romans used Portuguese urine in an attempt to whiten their teeth, and in the 14th century, teeth whitening procedures were the second most requested dental treatment; only behind tooth extractions. Back then, tooth whitening was performed using metal files and nitric acid. Then, the mid 19th century brought whitening agents such as chloride of lime, and with time other whitening agents (e.g., oxalic acid, ether peroxide and hydrogen peroxide) were being utilized. In the late 19th century a mixture of hydrogen peroxide, ether and electricity was used, however the electricity was soon replaced with heat. In the beginning of the 20th century, hydrogen peroxide (35%) stimulated by light or heated up was the established standard for whitening teeth. Hydrochloric acid was introduced as a method of teeth whitening in 1916, and in 1966 it was used in combination with hydrogen peroxide. By 1970 it was well established that hydrogen peroxide was the most effective stain removal agent. In 1989, teeth whitening by means of 10% carbamide peroxide in trays made for each individual patient using stone models of their mouths were employed.
Recently, countless teeth whitening systems have swamped the market claiming to safely whiten teeth. They have promised long-lasting outcomes with no aggravation, and vary from store bought home-bleaching kits all the way through to dental office photochemical laser whitening techniques. So, which whitening system and/or procedure will best suit your needs, and are most dependable? Advertisers also work their magic to confuse you even further! Therefore, selecting the best teeth whitening product can be very confusing.
