LONDON DENTAL CLINIC OFFERS HELP FOR IMPACTED TEETH

Monday, April 13th, 2009

Your London dentist has a lot of experience at treating impacted teeth. Impacted teeth are teeth that have not erupted fully or not erupted at all into the oral cavity This is usually caused by; teeth crowding, a misaligned tooth or teeth, another tooth blocking the eruption of the impacted tooth, or the tooth being attached to bone and not being able to erupt into the mouth. Wisdom teeth are the teeth most often to be found to be impacted. Usually when the dentist views a panoramic X-ray, they can tell if a tooth is impacted or not. It seems that the lower wisdom teeth are more often impacted than the upper wisdom teeth. This is usually due to the lack of space in the lower dental arch. Impacted teeth almost always require removal, due to their ability to continue to grow and form cysts, and cause other more serious problems. Retaining this impacted tooth can also cause crowding of the erupted teeth, and if they impinge on the cementum of an adjacent tooth and a root canal may be required. This is due to the enamel being harder than the cementum and dentin of the tooth. Partially erupted teeth can also have a piece of gum tissue over them and food and bacteria can be trapped underneath the gum tissue, causing an infection. This infection should be treated before the tooth is removed. So, visit your London Dental Clinic for help with your impacted teeth!

Extracting a Tooth at London dental clinic

Saturday, January 24th, 2009

Why is a tooth extraction performed? An extraction is performed when a tooth is broken down, or severely decayed and/or damaged. When visiting a London dentist, they may attempt to try to save the tooth by performing fillings, or root canal treatment and a crown. However, if it is decided by you and your dentist that the tooth cannot be saved, then a tooth extraction will be performed. It is the process of removing the tooth from its surrounding bony structure.
There are several other reasons why a tooth may require extraction. These include the following: 1) the eruption of a tooth may be hindered by another tooth as in the case of wisdom teeth and other impacted teeth; 2) if orthodontic treatment is required and there is not enough space in your mouth; 3) if you are undergoing head and neck radiation your teeth may be destroyed by the X-rays and lack of saliva in your mouth; 4) if you are undergoing chemotherapy for cancer tooth infections may occur, as these drugs weaken the overall immune system; and 5) if you have undergone or plan to undergo an organ transplant, as you have be much more prone to infections because you are taking immune system suppressing drugs.

London Dental Clinic Offers Dental Surgery

Sunday, November 9th, 2008

Many types of dental surgery procedures are offered at the London Dental Clinic, and your surgical problems will be properly addressed. Various circumstances call for dental surgery. These circumstances may entail the removal of impacted third molars and other teeth that are beyond saving. There are times when there is enough room for complete third molar development. However, under other circumstances there isn’t adequate room in the mouth, and result is an impacted tooth/teeth. There are different types of impactions, including soft tissue and/or the hard bony tissue impactions. These may cause difficulties with your second molars, get infected, and form cysts and sometimes tumours around them. Therefore, you should have these teeth extracted. Other teeth can also be impacted, thus requiring removal.
Other dental surgeries include: the placement of dental implants to replace missing teeth; correction of jaw disharmonies; repair of broken jaws and mouth lacerations; removal of lesions, cysts, and tumours; tissue biopsies; TMJ problems; frenal attachment repositioning; repair of cleft lip and palate; help for facial infections; and help with snoring problems and sleep apnea.

Wisdom Teeth Removal in London

Friday, April 11th, 2008

Wisdom teeth are the last of the set of morals in each jaw that emerges between ages 17 and 24 years. While some people never grow wisdom teeth in their lives, others may grow up to four wisdom teeth at the two extreme ends of each jaw. Although wisdom teeth do not cause any serious oral problem, impacted wisdom teeth (as they are described) may cause swelling, infection or pain to the patients even damaging the teeth next to them due to lack of space for tem to grow. This may cause the jaws to become sore and stiff and the infection, if any, may cause bad breath and tastelessness in the mouth.

If you have impacted wisdom teeth that are not causing any problem, the best way to treat them is to let them be. However, it needs medical attention if the impacted wisdom teeth are consequential to much discomfort, pain, swelling, or other problems such as tooth decay or cysts. The most common procedure for relieving the patient from all these symptoms is by surgically removing the wisdom tooth, under general anaesthesia and followed by necessary medications. However, going about the operation will not much affect the crookedness of the neighbouring teeth.

Wisdom teeth removal procedures are generally rendered by professional dental surgeons and you are sure to find one in London with great ease. Sometimes, the discomfort related to wisdom teeth pressing against the gum-line can be relieved by simply making an incision in the gum, thereby providing adequate space for it to grow.
